It’s been a tradition of mine to share with my readers how my year went. Like every new year, 2023 glittered full of promise. 365 days to achieve goals I set for myself.
Lessons I’ve learnt from years gone by is juggling too many goals simultaneously is not for me. Since I have a full-time job that occupies my daily week, the commute to and from work is taxing. Daily I want to throw myself on my bed after work and sleep from sheer exhaustion, but I have things to do in the house, or I need to exercise. My form of exercise is running, and I run three times a week.
Anyone who trains knows the hardest part of exercise is getting up, checking the weather, coming up with excuses not to exercise, but still doing it. I feel this way 90% of the time, but once I’ve completed my runs I feel like a champ!
Writing unfortunately takes a back seat during the week. I rarely have the energy after a run to sit and write before I climb into bed and fall asleep. Hence, all my writing is done over weekends and on the odd occasion I book a writing retreat for myself. My writing goal this year was to finish my second novel by June. I missed my self-imposed deadline, and worked as fast as I could to finish it in November!
Highlights of 2023 saw me taking on many challenging roles in work and in my social life. I’ve been speaking up a lot more, sharing at meetings, chairing meetings, and playing a critical role in various portfolios. I volunteer my time to causes that are dear to me and take an interest in passions that make my soul sing.
By all accounts 2023 was a fantastic year! I achieved what I set out to do. I grew through challenging experiences. I worked with people who tested me, yet I kept my dignity and peace of mind. My family remains my safety net who I can depend on and makes life worthwhile. Mostly I am grateful to the Lord for making everything possible.
How was your 2023? I’d love to know…
